msolga,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by extreme religious views. I really haven't seen anything too extreme in general. I am sorry if what we believe offends you and others.

Where I live (not in the US) MA, some of the views expressed in recent posts here would be considered decidely odd. It would be considered OK for a person to hold those views (we're pretty tolerant), but not quite the right thing to try to shove them down others' throats. People find that objectionable. They consider they have enough intelligence to make up their own minds on what they think.

How does one shove anything down anothers throat without a person first coming into this forum and that person opening their mouth and saying aaaaah?

I notice you "Christians" seem to be at a loss as to what your Savior. the Son of God, has said in the bible about how you treat your enemies. Should I go get chapter and verse to help refresh your memories??

Mannerly conduct

As per the membership agreement, it is a given that flaming, rude comments, and personal attacks are not acceptable here. Intellectually vacuous and snide slanders such as 'DemoRats' or 'REPUGlicans' (or local variants if you live elsewhere than the US) are completely unwelcome. Naturally, this also applies to discussions that are of a less political nature. But, actually, we ask more of you than those obvious and fundamental rules.

Consider that you are joing a community marked by good will and a shared committment to learn and to help others learn. Thus it is expected that all discussion participants will:

- read others' posts with care and deliberation
- strive to understand the position of those who disagree with you
- value your own experience and knowledge, and allow the same for others
- write your own posts with care and deliberation
- don't hog...keep your posts to a size and frequency which allows others an equal place in the discussion
- respect the intention of the person who originally posted and keep discussion relevant to the topic or question if that is his/her expressed wish, or the wish of others engaged. Always feel free to begin a separate question yourself if a tangent seems particularly interesting or important.
- feel quite free to disagree, but engage in friendly disagreement
- remember that humor and a friendly manner can go far in encouraging your readers to 'hear' your opinion
- and, make your posts helpful to the whole community by following the rules of good scholarship below.

Love for Enemies

"But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak, don't withhold your coat also. Give to everyone who asks you, and don't ask him who takes away your goods to give them back again.
"As you would like people to do to you, do exactly so to them. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive back as much. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.

Love for Enemies

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don't even the tax collectors do the same? If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don't even the tax collectors do the same? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Love of Enemies

In these times of bitter rivalry and enmity in the Church and elsewhere, we should remember that love of one's opponents is what characterizes the disciples of Christ.

By Brother Roger

Why is love of enemies so central to the Gospel?

Pray for our enemies. For if God be for us...who can stand against us.

I wrote to those in power and suggested we help our 'enemies'!

Food, clothing, shelter etc. Even our 'enemies' are people.
