I had serious doubts about the BG series remake, but even I have to admit that it's absolutely fantastic. I didn't much care for the pilot because I hadn't yet squashed the little voice in the back of my head that said, "This is going to suck."
The writers approach topics that most are afraid to touch with a ten-foot pole, as someone already mentioned, and that's great. Not just that they do so, but that they do so very well. The special effects don't really grab my attention as I don't really focus much on them anyway, but the music is great. Using taiko drums for the battle scenes is a very good choice, and whoever made that decision deserves a medal.
yeah totally - i'm so mad b/c my TiVo totally crapped out on me and missed the reruns of season 2.1 stuff. ah well...
