Do you own a Guardian Angel?

I can't even get past the whole nonsense of spirituality in general, much less take it as a given to form bonds with cosmic imaginary friends.
Agreed about the ego thing, but I hardly think abrahamic theism is good for the ego, psychologically speaking.

Sometimes I think self-proclaimed Angel Owners are Corporal Tails wagging Spiritual Dogs.

Still, healthy egos are Good Things.

Hmmm...dunno that this is healthy ego stuff, though.

If it is just thinking that we all have some sort of guardian, well, that is harmless and prolly makes for increased, if silly, happiness.

If, as the post that begins this thread states, those who believe they have such a being believe it is because they are specially blessed, that is getting into nutty territory...grandiosity and such.

Way back in the day, the good sisters at St. Mary's School
taught us that everyone had a guardian angel.

Non-catholics as well?

Then they are signally failing to earn their keep!

If I have one she's either lazy or a scatterbrain because I could use her now and then and she completely ignores me now.

However, I did meet a woman once when I was about 13 and she was "old". Although I only spent maybe two hours with her she really changed the person that I was and am today.

Despite her comment that this stroll was her regular constitutional, and despite my best efforts to run into her again, I never did.

I never saw another hint of her or of anyone else we encountered that day -- people who also seemed to be regulars along that particular path.

Thirty odd years later I sometimes think that she might be the only reason I'm still alive.

I've wondered whether she was an angel or a ghost or.......

I'll never know.

But I'm glad she was there that particular day.

Hmmm....

It was a particularly bad day for a particularly moody teenager: I was prone to depression even then.

One morning I woke up very early (still a problem) and I went for a walk. (I used to walk miles and miles and miles and miles with no particular destination but usually not so early in the morning.)

I was walking on a path near my house and I came across this "old" woman walking her dog and we started talking, not about anything in particular, just talking. She did mention that she walked her dog along the path every day. Mostly we talked about her dog.

We continued along across a pedestrian bridge that crossed a river where we met up with a couple of her friends?/colleagues?/known faces? and stopped to talk. They pointed out where the cranes were nesting. We all just stood there watching.

After a bit we turned around and started back up the path and parted ways at about the place we'd met. I went on home.

For whatever reason the depression lifted and I knew that I would be okay.

Really that was it.

Thinking about her now I still get a little blurry.

I went out looking for her many times after that. I looked for the people watching the cranes. I went at the same time and to the same place and with deep desire but I never saw any of them again.

I think she changed my life by teaching me that sometimes just being quiet with someone is really enough.

It is fascinating to me, too. It was a very pivotal part of my youth.

It certainly has made me pay attention to chance encounters and chance? fate? kismet? karma? has gone on to play a big part in my adult life.

Ms. Dogwalker....

.... I owe her a lot.

In the present spiritual turmoil at A2K I may be putting the cat among the pigeons by asking, "Do you own a Guardian Angel?" Believe me, my motive is curiosity rather than mischief making.

I have a problem with the word 'own' in that question.
I don't believe we 'own' Guardian Angels or Spirit Guides.
I believe they come to us freely from a place of pure love.
And we should never assume 'ownership'.
We should be appreciative of their help, love & guidance.

Do you think you have a full-time, personal Guardian Angel? Does anyone?

As I said previously, yes I do.
And I am very grateful for all their help, love & guidance.

Just my two cents worth. Very Happy

Epiphany my ass.

It took me a solid 20 years to even begin to "get" it, and this is an event I've rolled around my head a lot.

Then I spent another 10 years thinking about it.

Now I just shut up and try to be still when I feel that it's called for.

If 30 years counts as "sudden" then perhaps it was an epiphany!

Still, I'd love to see an epiphany thread.

Boomer, you hit on something that has happened to me and, like you, it took many, many years to finally get it.

An epiphany or the luck of knowing an extraordinary person-- a mentor or a chance-one- time meeting, some of those stories are amazing.

Bugs, your sentimentality makes me mist up, you sweet softie.
