Do you have a tradition of foods that MUST be eaten on New Year's to bring luck, prosperity, good times to your home during the coming year?
Whoever is at my house will be treated to braised pork ribs, blackeye peas, sauerkraut, and, in an asian-style twist, handmade Chinese noodles.
The pork brings money, the peas are for luck, the sauerkraut is so nothing else goes sour in the coming year, and the noodles are for longevity. So said my mother, anyhow, even when she had to bribe us to eat 12 of the peas?-one for each month!
What do you eat?
Potatoes, sausage and apples cooked together and served with a good bread. This tradition as it were, came about during the great surplus food famine of 1968 when the only food left in the house was the above mentioned items. The following year was much better so it must have worked.
That sounds good too! My friends are having folks over for ham hocks and blackeye peas.... and football.
