But, honestly my best is probably The Godfather. Never mind, The Matrix is also good.

The Matrix was pretty ordinary after the first one. I have to go with LOTR, for sheer magnitude if nothing else.

Even though it's not up there, the GodFather must get my vote.

And Wilso is correct, after #1 the matrix was drivel.

Well, Star Wars isn't really a trilogy.

But the Godfather is definitely the best trilogy.

Krzysztof Kieslowski Francophilic trilogy inspired by the French Flag in Trois Couleurs: Bleu, Blanc, Rouge. Is a tour de force of the power of symbolism through the portrayal of grief and catharsis, revenge and redemption, and isolation and platonic love.

The first two Godfather movies were cinematic art. The third was a turkey.

Bella Dea is correct -- technically there are six parts to "Star Wars," but perhaps one could section them off into two trilogies?

LOTR, hands down. Just no comparison to "The Matrix" whose second and third parts are essentially the same plot construction as the first and the first is far superior.

The Indiana Jones trilogy is also very good but the third part gets lost in essentially duplicating the first and drags down the effort.

"The Terminator," ditto. The "revelation" was obvious and Ahnold must have had poltiics on his mind when he tossed off his role.

The Trois Couleurs trilogy is quite good but in comparison to its own genre doesn't quite equal LOTR.

"The Godfather" Part One and Two was diminished as a trilolgy with Part Three, Copolla just didn't seem to have the concept nor enthusiasm to bring off the story.

Godfather for me although I think the third one wasn't very good, also another I thoroughly enjoyed was Back to the future.

Wheter a true trilogy or not, the three parts of Fanny and Alexander (in the TV version) will always remain number one for me, which reminds me that I should get those on DVD.

Austin Powers is a good trilogy, it's very rare that a trilogy gets better with each new movie.

But the Godfather remains the best, in my humble opinion, I even liked part three Shocked

I voted for LOTR...mainly for production values...very, very well made and I haven't even seen the extended versions yet.

I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan, but those are all hurt by the sub par acting/script. Most fans I know of refer to them as dual trilogys...OT {old trilogy} NT {new trilogy}

I love the first two Godfather movies, especially the second one...third one feels as if it were made solely for the "trilogy" name....same with the Terminator.

Highlander could have been an awesome trilogy if it were planned or written that way, but is a prime example of a one shot movie being stretched into...what 5 movies? besides the tv series confusing the entire thing. Since it wasn't done properly, I wish they would have stopped after the first one.

Matrix is much the same, could have been left as a single movie, but was followed by two more because of shear popularity, and money to be made. But they are well made, and don't conflict with each other as does the Highlander movies, so I will watch them again from time to time.

Back to the future...always a fun watch
Silence of the Lambs...a bit graphic at times, but Hopkins is great.

as others have said, LOTR for sheer magnitude

a more obscure choice would be three films by lindsay anderson, all starring malcolm mcdowel

if, o' lucky man and brittania hospital

I would have voted for The Godfather.

A lot of people say that the third one is bad. I actually think it is better than the first one. And any fan should know that "The Godfather: Part 3" was not actually meant to have that name. Francis Coppola wanted it to have the title "The Death of Michel Corleone" and he didn't think it would make sense to call it "Godfather: Part 3". But Paramount insisted that it should be called Godfather: Part 3, so it would bring in more money. Another fun fact is that Paramount at one time wanted to make Godfather: Part 3 without Coppola, and let SYLVESTER STALLONE direct and star in it!

I am surprised that no one have even mentioned Scorsese's gangster trilogy (Mean Streets, Good Fellas and Casino).

The two trilogies that I have mentioned, together with "Trois Couleurs" are my favorite trilogies, but none of them are in the poll.

Godfather Part 3 is indeed more attractive in its plot from my point of view, especially in comparison with the dullness of the Part 2. (Though I think the Part 2 is great too)
