House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) yesterday defended Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-Calif.) after calls from congressional Democrats to investigate the Republican appropriator for selling his San Diego home to a defense contractor whose firm had received $65 million in federal funds in 2004.

"Duke Cunningham is a hero," DeLay said during a press briefing Tuesday. "He is an honorable man of high integrity."

Will someone shut Delay up! I find it difficult to believe that human beings actually voted for this a-hole.

Co-conspirator with Cunningham is Mitchell Wade. And gosh if he isn't connected via money stuff with Katherine Harris of Florida recount fame (and others).

Although blatham makes it "appear" that Delay made that comment just yesterday, he (Delay) actually said it 6 months ago.

I visit San Diego enough to be curious about their politics (somewhat)...and I have to admit I was also an admirer of Duke's. I saw him tearing up yesterday while giving his speech and confess I couldn't muster much pity for him. Greed. Pure and simple. Along with "power", I suppose.

What makes me even more disgusted is that it isn't like these politicians aren't pretty much set for life with their "self-given" salaries, pensions, etc. He should be stripped of all of that, forced to resign, thrown in prison and made to do community service if and when they ever let him out.

There's much in his past to be commended. He erased all that, ruining his former good reputation, because he was greedy. Sad.

Sorry. Had no intent to make that DeLay statement look recent. It was in June, I think. Posted it to remind us all that you can't really believe what politicians say, DeLay particularly.
