What is the point to life if there is a God?

Since there is absolutely no proof of this, IMO what the religionists are doing is wishful thinking on a grand scale. It is on a par with the belief of the Islamic self immolators that they are going to hang out in heaven for eternity with 72 virgins.

I think you notice i used the word 'believer' in there. So it is not to do with "proof" in the sense that you use it, it is to do with FAITH

If you believe that Jesus is God, and that what He says is true. Then you will find proof. But you must have faith first.

Also I resent that comparison.

Faith- Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.

Nick- IMO, once one suspends one's reason and judgement, it is a crapshoot. To the Islamic jihadists, the 72 virgins are as real to them as your concept of faith. What do you think of their concept of heaven? After all, they have faith. Is not their faith as relevent as yours? Both ideas are not based on proof or evidence.

Nick- Why? Is not their faith as worthy of respect as yours?

Why not? They are both based on non-rational, non-logical premises, and therefore, have a lot in common. Why is YOUR faith more true than theirs?

If I told you that I had faith that when I die, I will be carried up to another universe on a golden chariot, pulled by six snow white horses, and I will live out eternity with my ancestors, would you respect that faith?

Nick- But those folks believe it. Is that not what you said faith is about?

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.

It's a lovely poem, but what does that have to do with the faith of one person or another?

The point that I am attempting to make is that when on suspends reason and logic, and relies on faith, one person's faith is as good as anyone else's. The concept is the same. Only the particulars differ.

The reason i don't accept other faiths as true is because there can only be one truth. the Catholic faith is the One True Faith.

I haven't insulted your faith. I think that what you are insulted at is that I do not accept the tenets of your faith.

In your opinion. And how did you come to this conclusion, when there are other people who believe that their particular faith is the truth?

The right thing? You accused me of insulting your faith. Do you realize that you have just insulted everyone else who does not believe as you do?

I don't think so. You have contradicted yourself by your remark about believing the "right thing".

That is right. That is exactly how I see it. What is wrong with that?

You told me that you respect another person's faith, even if you believe it to be untrue. Then you call the Islamic concept of 72 virgins "ludicrous". Is THAT showing respect for another person's faith? Did I call the Apostle's Creed, "ludicrous"?

Nick- I do not respect the entire concept of faith. What I DO respect is the right of people to have their beliefs, as long as their beliefs do not infringe on my rights..
