ossob, if it's been a while since visiting the SD zoo, you might want to do it again. there's 3 aviaries now, and the third/biggest one is amazing--not that there's anything wrong with the other 2--it's vast, with an enormous tree growing in the middle, a fish pond at the top, bunch of feeders where the smaller birds fly in to get their fruit, nut, and grub.

I haven't see it since the late seventies. I remember the aviary as large and wonderful then..

There's a tour of the older aviary (I think) on this link -

Hmm. On my last visit - which I'm now remembering was around 1984 - I took a bunch of black and white photos that came out well, at least in my memory. One of these days when I unpack I'll scan them..

it's hard to be sure, but i think that's the newest aviary. the description sounds like it. besides the aviary, another hilite is the hippo pool, believe it or not. it's fascinating to get an underwater view of the behemoths.

Jane--
I was notified that I had a PM last week, but none appeared in my mailbox. Did you try to contact me?

Okay - if you want to know my name (in case you are able to stop by the Marriott) send me a pm. I tried to contact you, but was told I'm not approved to do that. I must have been a bad boy in another life.

Hi CowDoc, yes, despite being a member for several years, I think
the rule is to have 500 posts before being able to send messages.

Thanks for all the advice, folks. The wife had a great time and we made it back in one piece! Trust me, I won't hesitate to ask again the next time we're off to somewhere unfamiliar. Again, many thanks!

Hi CowDoc!

I am glad you had an enjoyable time here. San Diego is
a fun place and hopefully the next time, we both have more time to team up for a drink. Smile
