You're welcome for the welcome! - dev
Sumac, there's only one thing I disagree with in that article by J. Chin. And that is the assertion, early on, that humans are "unique in being aware of their own mortality." Many animals seem to know that they are about to die. I have seen an old cat stagger around, 'saying goodby' to the humans she cared about before crawling off to a corner to curl up and pass away. Same thing with some dogs. The difference between these animals and humans is that we seem to be the only ones who actually fear death. Other animals realize that it's quite normal.
Welcome back to the thread, Dev. Glad you understood my message on the Spoonerism thread.
Welcome back dev......
Yes, we did miss you.......

The continuing saga.... One fine day flying over the jungles of Vietnam I heard screams and crying - sobbing sort of - and woeful words of premonitions of dying over the Fox Mike frequency which was our company channel. I finally recognized the voice - it was one of the pilots from my company. No names mentioned. I finally got through on the radio to him and determined his location. He told me he had been shot and his plane was going to crash. He was really upset. I flew in the direction to intercept his plane and finally saw it. As I neared him I asked what happened - he said that his plane had been hit and he thought it would crash. I flew in really close underneath his bird and finally saw a single bullet hole in the left wing. He was still wailing like crazy and I had a hard time getting through to him on the radio to tell him the plane was fine - he just needed to go back to base.
This same man had arrived at the company blustering all over the place and appeared really brusk and manly. He was usually loud and overconfident. This was a reversal of personality of gigantic proportions.
I flew back to the company area with him trying to calm him down.
He was a lot quieter after that.
That is a good one, Danon. Really nothing beats good old war stories.
I could tell you about when I jumped out of an airplane, on purpose, and almost got hung up in some pines of New Jersey. As it happened, I tensed when I landed and only ended up with a yellow abdomen. Pretty.
Do we need a new thread? How about Lions and tigers, and bears, oh my? Meander into bears - particular bears of the rainforest, like the panda.

Rain Forest thread #65
OK troops, there you go. Perhaps ehBeth or someone can badger someone to get it highlighted. Nothing like a little cross-species pun. Eh, what?
And yes, MA, I neglected to comment on your comment. I could not agree with you more. I have every knowledge in my gut that we aren't alone in knowing of death, and understanding it.
