And again, home swap with me, come to my pretty little townhouse in the most interesting small town in England, and let me stay for a while in your place!

Clary - If I am still in the US this summer and not in my own home in England- I would LOVE to home swap with you. I've been to Totnes and it's not too bland for me.

I live in a very nice, smallish though very comfortable house at the top of a hill overlooking a reservoir four miles outside of a pretty quaint little medium-sized town equidistant (about three hours) from NYC (south) and Boston (east).

It's a lovely area - probably the most uniformly beautiful place I've lived in all the places I've lived in the US- very green and lots of rolling hills - it actually reminds me alot of Somerset.

In terms of climate the summer would be very pleasant here - not too hot and not too rainy...the only downside I can think of is that for you, it might seem too isolated. It's definitely not downtown Totnes - you'd be surrounded by tracts of woods and lots of trees out here. I love it - but I know it's not for everyone.

Anyway - here's the view from my dining room:

I do have a dog, but I'd take her to a friend's house - I wouldn't expect you to keep track of her out here in all these woods. Anyway - let me know if the time frame works for you or the location interests you. I'll also let you know if I'll even still be here by then. I should know 100% by March.

Great view!

I think August would be out, as I expect one of my sons to be here - again, not sure, he never makes up his mind till the last moment Evil or Very Mad

But how about September? Or would you be back there then?

Like dogs but not perhaps feeling like being responsible for one getting lost in the woods.

I can swap a car, too, could you?

That is a spectacular view, aidan. Not quite as swampish as I would prefer, but nice nonetheless.

Clary - I couldn't do September, as my daughter is still school-aged and we don't do vacations during term time.

I could do anytime from late June all the way through July though.

Yes, I would have a car to swap - it's standard - can you drive a manual transmission? I guess that's not that big of a deal though-if you couldn't you could rent a car here pretty cheaply for a week or two. You would definitely need a car here though - it's a four mile walk into town - I've done it - but there and back is TIRING- lots of hills.

Thanks Gus - it is a beautiful view- that's what made me take the house. I walked up on the front deck and looked through the glass door, all the way through the dining room and out the dining room window to that view and I said, "Yep- this is it." It is lovely - very quiet...lots of places to walk, and of course the reservoir is all frozen over now so we ice-skate pretty much every day. Couldn't really ask for more...

Yes, manual fine. Possibly June/July. That would be great. Depends on money, partly. Doesn't it always!?

The white house on the right of the ghostly figure is mine; you can't see much, and I have never seen anyone dressed like that outside it!

Okay! Your lane looks lovely! I'd love to be there this summer sometime. I'll keep you updated as to our status- as I said- I should know something definite one way or the other by the end of March.

Not absolutely sure I want to be entirely buried in the country like that although it is very beautiful... maybe I can convince a friend to come and share with me, for company.

Well yeah...unless you were on some kind of enforced solitude retreat- it'd be good to have other people around.

Again, no obligation - I'll be going to England either way- and in all actuality, ideally, I'd prefer my base more toward Somerset or Wiltshire- although Totnes is very beautiful and I love the Devon/Dorset coast- so I wouldn't feel too, too deprived Laughing .

And as I said, by that time - this house might not even be mine anymore.

I'll let the idea mull around in the swamp of my unconscious for a while then!
