As I am sure by now most of you know I have a porsche 911 Carrara, we don't drive it very much (2,000 miles in the last year, 1,000 just to go visit JLNobody in Arizona) anyway this past sunday the lady Diane and meself decided to take advantage of the wonderful New Mexico fall weather and take a drive over the "Turquoise Trail" that runs behind the Sandia Crest mtn aside Albuquerque into Santa Fe. after coming down off the mountain you arrive in Madrid (prounced Mad-Rid) an old mining town turned into a art gallery of 2 blocks of art galleries and a few dozen homes. This is about 20 miles from Santa fe on a road to nowhere. I was sitting on a railing outside a gallery and some other persons were talking about house lots for sale in the area and there being nothing under $250,000 for an empty lot. We had a very nice lunch (the rest room is out the door, down the alley and around the corner, please take the key) This is kinda the last of the old west.

Even though land prices have become obscene because of its proximity to Santa Fe, it is still very unselfconscious and full of a fascinating mix of expensive paintings, sculpture and exquisite crafts, there are other, more quirky galleries which are accessible to people like us.

The day was typical New Mexico in the fall, warm, sunny and a sky of that unique New Mexico blue.

The only drawback was that the Porsche wanted to play, which means at least 130 MPH; we had to rein it in due to the winding road.

lovelovelovelovelove Madrid! Just keep the windows rolled up when driving back roads down to ALBQ - don't want to catch the black death.

Sigh..... Siri Hollander (horse artist extraordinaire) used to live right in town. There's good ice cream on main street. I shot band photos for a silly band South of town, I road a crazy grey nag through the pinons north of town..... there used to be a hole in the wall punk rock club out that way called the cornhole (heh!)..... oooooh! Gawd, those were fun days!
