Let's see...Harriet taking her ball and bat and going home, Scooter and Karl sweating out a grand jury, Tom explaining himself to a judge, Bill trying to explain why he is not the same as Martha. Quite a crew.

Isn't the task of appointing someone now going to be even worse?

IMO he has to get someone more conservative for his base(Religious Right) to support...and it's going to look bad if this person isn't a woman.

I wouldn't be too happy. Who do you imagine he'll choose now?

God only knows, but we got to take what victories we can since we have so little of them. Let us enjoy a defeat of Bush from his party for a little while. It feels good.

The Democrats are in a stronger position to fillibuster since Miers resigned (without their prodding). Bush is going to have to pick someone who doesn't look too far to the right.

BTW 2006 and 2008 are beginning to look like they may be fun...

Hardly.

Bush is in such bad shape right now that he can't take any more hits from any direction, left or right. Look for a moderate-to-conserevative judge with a stellar rating, who is prepared to say that Roe vs Wade is "settled law", at the very rightmost.
