how to clam in the caribbean?

i am living on a caribbean island now. every time i swim in the ocean, i see lots of clam shells. big and small.

but i have never seen any live ones. so i wonder where they are, how can i get some to eat? Wink

I don't know much about harvesting clams, but I understand in New England, you dig for them.
