Keeping Our Children Safe at Halloween

My son is about to go off to college next year. But I wanted to share this website with those of ya'll who have the little ones.
This is quite interesting & very scary! Let your
friends know about this website. It's
free to search.
Okay, here's the deal... go to this link and near the
bottom left, it has a "Find Offenders near me" button... click on
it and enter your address... it will show a "house",
that's your house... all the little colored boxes are
Sex Offenders... click on them and you get a name &
picture of the person along with his crime... pretty
amazing and scary... Not houses you want your children to trick or treat.

Thanks also. It is so scary - I just saw a sex offender that was right next to where my daughter went to summer camp! If "it" is still there next summer I will definately let the camp know about it.

That's a great website...I watch the S.O. list often to make sure none of them live too close to me. Yikes, there sure is a lot of them.

What the heck? They don't have Oregon on the list.

Seems like a great site that a lot of people have been able to use. I wish I were one of them. Thanks yellowlab.

Well, boomerang, let me check on that. (Oregon) It is federal law that all sex offenders register. Or at least I thought it was federal. Let me check this out.
I know it is in Texas...............

Boom,
In Texas it is the law that sexual offenders register.
Here is your state:
http://landru.leg.state.or.us/05reg/measures/hb2300.dir/hb2316.b.html and their laws, I do not see it law that offenders must register.

Best parent advice, contact your PTA & your Senator.
I am not saying that we need to "put a sign on their yard"; but we are talking about our children. We need to educate ourselves & our children regarding their surroundings.
Let me know what I can do to help.

Wow, thanks you guys for the sites -- it is scary to think that you don't know if these people are sex offenders... too bad that can't put something out in front of their house the night of Halloween saying that they are -- what do you think of that? Do you think it is possible? It would also be nice to make them register their computer too with a webiste, preventing them from entering teen sites, kid sites, etc -- would keep kids safer online... do you think that there is such a thing?

In California, we can access the state department website to find sex offenders in our neighborhood. Since our children are middle-aged adults, I don't worry, but we have many young children in our neighborhood, and it seems on Halloween, kids from all over tarnation come to "trick or treat."

That's a great site - thank you!

We don't have any sex-offenders in our immediate
neighborhood, but since only registered sex-offenders are
reported, one never can be too safe.

What I find irritating though, some of the registered sex-offenders live in walking distance to schools. How can
this happen? Shouldn't they be living where there is no
access to schools etc. in the vicinity?
