Same here, I got into soccer after the last world cup, cause the Asian times of competition were very close to Australian time and we could actually watch the matches during hours when we would be usually awake!

I go for England and Holland this time round. All the way.

Id go for the Aussies if they had a realistic chance Very Happy

Do you really think the Aussies can go as far as Guus took the Koreans?

Who knows? I don't know anything about soccer, and find it about as exciting as watching paint dry. But I'm Australian, and the Aussie team will be there, which means I must support them.

The aussies will be very very lucky if they go through to the second round. They did a pole on SBS the other day, and it seems that Aussies are in a state of delirum after their win over the Uruguayan savages and the majority o f votes 30% believe Aussies will make it to the quarter finals LOL. It will just never happen.

I mean Aussies are practically ranked last out of all these teams that have made it in, and always have been in the past.

According to the latest FIFA ranking, Australia is right behind Trinidad and Tobago and only above Angola, among qualified teams.
But I disagree: Australia will do better than Angola, Tunisia, Trinidad and Tobago, Togo, Saudi Arabia, Iran and one or two European and South American flops.
Quarter finals may be too much, but if the Aussies get lucky in the draw and show their world-wide known competitiveness, they do stand a chance to get into the second round.

I agree that these teams will be outplayed by Australia, since most of our players these days do play in decent European premier level leagues. If Australia gets lucky with their draw and ends up in a group with 3 of these 2 of these countries then hey, sure they can make it to the second round.

If FIFA has honor, Mexico will be top seed el_pohl.
Both for points in the previous 3 World Cups and for ranking, it should.
Yet, if that happens, then Holland is not a top seed, and a European team has to be sent to a lower level bowl. No top seeder wants to play Holland, and the UEFA is powerful. I would not bet my left arm, or even my pinky for Mexico.
They may get Salomonic, allow Mexico the top seed and, bang!, rank the Dutch on the same group (even if we have more points than Spain).

Jamesw, Australia won't get more than one of those lesser favorite teams on the list. One top-seed (best buys: Mexico or Spain); one European (best buys: Switzerland, Ukraine, Poland); and one "other" (best buy, IMHO: Saudi Arabia).
But it could also end up against Brazil, Czech Republic and USA!

Haha, got some "medio tiempo" Joe?

BTW - The last WC had some straaaaange happenings that, in my humble opinion, ruined the show. Hopefully this wont happen again...

I'm looking to this WC. Serbia&Montenegro qualified for senior WC, under 21 WC, and younger (I'm not sure which age). Guess we are getting better, I expect a good WC.
