It's an auction event. Sotheby's is hosting a historic ten-day auction at the castle of Marienburg near Hannover from October 5-15. It will include more than 20,000 heirlooms belonging to the Welf dynasty.

The auction is expected to bring in over $12 million and the top of the heap should go to this pair of three-foot tall vases, painted by M. Kriukov and S. Spiridonov with panels depicting Allegories of Wrath and Pride in a gilt frame against a dark-blue ground and a gilt-ground lower section moulded in low relief with a foliate border. They are estimated to sell for $550,000-$750,000.

The catalog includes a variety of ancestral portraits, medieval swords, guns, beer tankards, and lot after lot of silver.
