Can I look it up on a map? I have some spots to visit whenever I get to NY again...

(I don't care if it is dangerous to tourists, I've lived in and near dangerous, just wondering where exactly...)

I will see if I can find some more interesting maps. I was raised there. I lived on 12th between B&A, 6th between A&C, and 4th streets between C&D. NYC is where I was born, but LOISAIDA (alphabet city) is where my heart is.

On worrying about danger, I lived in the bronx as a child for a short time and a neighbor told me scary stuff since, but that was long ago. I don't know how safe any of that is now, which is why I asked. Not that I wouldn't go, but to have a sense of place.

on where your map shows, my worry level is different, however correct. As in I'm not.

I went to New York once. I remember being on the plane from L.A. thinking to myself "Man, New York ain't got nothing on L.A.". I was lost the whole time I was there. Four days. I finally got on a train exhausted. They woke me up at the end of the line at an airport in Long Island. I finally slept.

I believe that when it's your time, it's your time no matter where you live.

If you take the walking tour you end up on 3rd st. around 1st & 2nd avenues. You can ask the tour guide to point you in the direction of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. You will have to walk a few blocks more.

Like any place in the world today, people know who the native to the area is, and they know who is the stranger. Today it is better to travel with more than one person.

As far as getting lost, yes it happens a lot. Best thing to do is carry a map, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

If you like prints, see the print exhibition in the link. If you would like to learn how to make prints, or just need a space to print your work, here too you can find the answer.
