Hi Yall, Here is a question.
I am not experienced, and really need ur advice.
I have a friend of mine, who is pregnant, and I need to know, if there are any goverment funded hospitals which can help her deliver her baby and give him a birht? How does it work?
I have couple friends who are mommies, but I never talked to them about the whole process, as I was not interested. And Now, My friend needs help. What is better, should she go back to Russia and deliver her baby, or stay here? If she stays, what will be the costs? How long does it take since the moment she delivers the baby and up to the point when she will get the papers for her newborn?
thank you!

Your community hospital is required to provide medical care irregardless of ability to pay.

yup cicerone is correct, im an EMT for my community, this happens all the time. Go to her community hospital, they wont refuse her. Payment will be handeled.

DEFINATLY have it in America...aside from having better healthcare, the benefit of having the baby born in america is, he or she becomes an american citizen!

the thing is, she is a Student visa holder, and her visa will exprire sometime in december or something. And she decided to stay here, ilegally obviously. Why? Because she does not have neither money to go to college to continue her school, nor to get a lawer to change her status. She got her ticket for october 5th, and will be back october 27, wants to meet her husband and family members. and not sure wheter she should come back with her baby or should she stay back home? She really wants her child to be an American citizen. But her brother is against, he is leaving soon, in November. So, if she comes back, she will lose her status in a month or so and will be pregnant on her own. What are the disadvantages? Will she have a lot of problems when leaving the country with an american citizen baby with her? Should she stay, give a birht an go back home? She is really worried about the financing the whole thing, neither her nor I am informed how it works here. thank you one more time.

Doesn't matter whether she's here illegally or not. Community hospitals are required by federal law to provide health services to those that appear at their facility.

My nephew was born in German hospital while my sister and her husband were stationed there. He has dual citizenship.

Your friend may be in the same situation, where the baby may be able to have dual citizenship for America and Russia.

I can't imagine anyone stopping her from leaving with HER baby to go live in Russia just because the baby is a US citizen. We can pretty much come and go as we please with our children as long as the country we are going to will let us in.

Your friend can go to an American hospital, have her baby and then leave after about a 2 day hospital stay depending on whether or not there are any complications. Of course, she wouldn't want to travel to Russia with a 2 day old. Her doctor can instruct her on how long to wait before flying with her new infant.

Many of the community hospitals have clinics for those that cannot afford medical care. Your friend can also check with social services / human services at the local health center to find out about medical payment assistance for immigrants - legal and illegal. I was actually shocked to recently find out that illegal immigrants have their own office in our local health center. I'd really encourage her to get pre-natal care. It is so important for the health of the baby.

squinney's point about pre-natal care is well taken. Please take advantage of your local social service agency for the sake of your baby and you.
