As far as the New York /Texas strip steak furore goes, it's always been, and always will be, called sirloin over here.
There's an apocryphal tale that James 1 liked it so much he knighted it, hence the "sir".
When I was working in a meat packing factory in Northumberland we would label it " striploin."
To be honest until today I had never even heard of the term New York strip steak before today, and assumed it was a recipe, not a cut.
