@roger,
In no particular order, I remember Donna, Diane, Carol and Edna somewhere between 1954 and 1960. At the time, I lived in Boston mass and it did some damage.

Edgar hasn't posted for a few days now. I hope he's okay and it's just that the power is out.

I hope so, too!

It seems, there's still one million-plus without electricity, CenterPoint (the local/regional electricity company) plans to have power back to 400,000 more customers by end of Friday and another 350,000 customers by end of day Sunday.

Power resumed after two days but I got online an hour ago. We had WIFI but my phone and computer couldn't use it. The neighbors across the street only got power this time yesterday. Our only damage, I got a roof leak, which I already fixed. Everybody is blaming the power company for so much power loss. I'm no expert, but I think our entire system is vulnerable and they will never come up with money and a plan to fix it. The linemen are exemplary and I salute them and buy them an imaginary beer.

Thank you for your kind comments. The first thing I saw on TV this morning, officials said that the threats against power workers only slows it all down. I don't know how many still are waiting.

Some people will have to wait until the weekend to be restored. Local news did a story about the ones who have died from the heat. A group of small business owners have filed a lawsuit against the power company. The Governor was demanding answers.

@edgarblythe,
Very interesting. I wonder how this will turn out? Fine the futility company, perhaps?

Even though Beryl was barely a hurricane, Houston caught hell, especially from the flooding and downed power lines. From what I understand, flooding of the streets of Houston is not uncommon.

Houston was originally pretty much a swamp before the city was built. They made neighborhoods and such without much thought for flood control. The highways are constructed so they retain water instead of draining it away, so cars get stuck. Pretty much a typical clusterclump of non planning. The power system fails whenever we get a little weather.

@hightor,
The local news feeds the rage by incessantly dwelling on the hardships, the heat, the deaths. They play it up instead of simply reporting the facts.
