I'm not taking a politcal point of view here, just some remarks for comparison/contrast. There has been some criticism of how Bush has planned for this disaster in NO and some of it may very well be founded, I don't really know, But I would like to point out it's that not so many years ago Clinton running for re-election made the comment in a speech in Gallup New Mexico that he thought every home on the Navajo Nation reservation should have internet access. The point I am trying to make is that 37% of the homes on the navajo nation do not have nor have ever had electricity. In the scheme of things we suddenly have those that should be "in the know" saying things like "we just never expected anything this huge" and yet virtually every news cast I heard on sat and sun preceeding Katrina kept talking about "worst case" senario with expected total flooding in the downtown NO area due to flooding from levy breaks etc rather than from actual storm surge. Yet, everyone was caught off guard? The emergency shelter was the superdome that rested below the water level? Hospitals in the same situation?
I feel safer already with the speed with which our "Homeland Security Department" has responded to this disaster.
why, are their illegal aliens sneaking into the city of NO while our guard is down? Perhaps they are just looking for work with the cleanup crews. We can always ship them back home after the mess is cleaned up.
I am guessing that the next step will be to airlift in 100,000 laptop puters with wireless access so that the displaced and homeless can message each other about where they will be sleeping tonight.
