As far as I'm concerned, Sunday was Bloomsday, which commemorates the day, June 16, 1904 that was the setting for the novel,
Ulysses. I've always considered it a day of literary obligation. Like the protagonist, I had fried kidneys for breakfast. Then I visited a peony farm about two hours away, where I met my brother and we enjoyed the visual feast of a huge field filled with blooming peonies. It was a stunning June day with clear blue skies.
