WASHINGTON - President Bush, flanked by hundreds of members of the Idaho National Guard chanting "USA! USA!," insisted Americans are safer because of the war in Iraq and singled out an Idaho woman whose husband and five sons all have served in the war.
Breaking from his vacation for the second time this week to make a plea for support for the war among increasingly skeptical Americans, Mr. Bush vowed in Nampa, Idaho, that American troops will not leave Iraq until it can protect itself against insurgents.
Quote:Americans, he said, are safer because of the war. "When the terrorists spend their days and nights struggling to avoid death or capture, they are less capable of arming and training and plotting new attacks on America and the rest of the civilized world," he said.
