I am a 50 year old male who is my fathers only child. In his will he left to my wife, his daughter in-law, 2.3rdfs of what he left me, My question is whether or not this is common, the norm. I would think that most parents would leave everything to the child and not split it between the child and their spouse. I know damn well that my wife's parents are NOT going to leave me anything in their will regardless of my wife's status.
@edcarden,
It's was your father's money and you have no claim on it. It was generous of your father to think of both of you. From the anger in your post, I think you better think through this before you say something to your wife that you will regret.
@edcarden,
Perhaps this is his way of keeping your wife taking half in a divorce, or just maybe, he thought pretty highly of your wife.
It's unseemly to get the lion's share of an estate and complain about it.
@bobsal u1553115,
Especially to argue about it before your father has passed. Where did the notion someone is owed an estate when someone else has passed develop? That someone has some sort of anticipatory rights, including criticism of other bequests?
@edcarden,
Your married to her so what is the problem?
@PoliteMight,
Smartest thing you've posted in a while.
