It was Vesuvius. Bet he felt stupi
Actually, I believe he was ordered over there by the emperor to survey the damage after the eruption. The remaining toxic fumes did him in and he became Pliny the Dead.
Epigynum is a word that should be in everyone's vocabulary.
I learned obstruent from Spendius; it means obstructive.
Here's a photo of an epigynum....
I'm in a sharing mood today.
osso, you are being obstruent to my epigynum tutorial.
Epigynum does seem to be a useful new word..

Thanks for your contribution!
It means anything which causes obstruction in any passage of the body.It wouldn't apply to red traffic lights or dead ends.
Hmmmm, I'll keep that in mind.
The new word I learnt today, was Tingo.
Tingo is an Innuit word, which means to borrow household items from a neighbour, one thing at a time, until he has nothing left.
Tingo.
Short rather than long "i", I assume.
Hey, osso, if you're not too busy tomorrow, would you care to engage in some plimpplamppletteren?
I think it would do us both some good.
ekleptomanic - chronic compulsive stealing syndrome
Plimplampletteren? That's a date!
Well, if Gus can contribute epigynum, I van be forgiven for contributing pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (sometimes spelled pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicavolcanoconiosis and I have even seen it in print as pneumonoultramiscroscopicsilcovolcanokonisosis). Whatever. You'll find it only in those dctionaries which are labeled 'unabridged' and weigh about the same as a newborn colt. But most dictionaries will have the word 'silicosis', which means exactly the same thing.
Thank you for contributing, Merry. And in such a succinct fashion.
Going back to simple words for simple folks:
Quote:
Tingo is an Innuit word, which means to borrow household items from a neighbour, one thing at a time, until he has nothing left.
In southern climes one can also commit emotional tingo, drawing on the resources of The Beloved until the only options are death or divorce.
I was shocked to find the following word in the dictionary. I didn't think it was a "proper" word.
ginormous
-- extremely large
origin: GIANT and ENORMOUS
Another word is Baku-shan, which is Japanese
...... and means " A woman who looks better from behind".
