Yes, it is. Fortunately, her retirement benefits include some prescription
drug reimbursement.

chosing not to take Fosomax
Hello all, I have been taking Fosomax for 3 years and really am starting to question if fosomax is the drug for me.

After reading several articles regarding law suits against the maker of the drug I can tell you I will be booking an appointment with my doctor to discuss my many concerns of this drug. My biggest question is this: If I choose to go off Fosomax what will the effects be? I'm on it as a preventative measure but my bone density showed I'm at risk when I hit age 65, I'm 45 now.

My Mother had osteo and my sister who is 10 years older than I am is in the beginning stages but she takes Actenol...I can't take that because apparently I'm on the lowest dose of Fosomax available and Actenol doesn't make my dosage...sure would be nice to take it once a week instead of every morning.

Has anyone ever gone off Fosomas after taking it a long time?

Hello

There are a couple of things i wanted to mention. My mother is in her early 50's and she has osteporisis (as do all of her sisters ) and once she started Fosomax, she felt heart pain. It turns out she couldnt continue with it cause it caused her serious problems. So Watch OUT! I on the other hand took Fosomax for 3 years and did notice imporovements in my bone density tests. However I was also exercising 5 times a week ( with lots of weight training)--so not sure if improvements were due to one, the other or both. I find myself now stopped Fosmax because I am 26 and want to have kids and there are serious side affects that Fosmax has on fetus development. If you are young as I am do not take Fosmax!

I have been reading the messages with interest. I took Fosomax for about 14 months. Read about the potential bad side effects and stopped. Just had my second bone scan which showed no change from the one two years ago. Message from doctor, take Fosomax, Actonel, or Evista. I have been researching all three and don't feel comfortable taking any of them! Am 66, female and am sure I am at risk. However, I can find nothing that reassures me about taking any of these drugs. I was also advised to take 1,500 mg of calcium with vitamin D which I don't think poses a problem. Any advice out there whether to take or not take these drugs? All suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am wondering if anyone has started taking Fosamax and then had back trouble? My chiropractor says she has experienced a trend of women starting the medication and months later ,needing help for skeletal alignment etc. I am VERY active but had 6% bone loss at 62 yrs old and thought Fosamax would be a good idea. Now I wonder as I had my sacrum and pelvis go out of alignment after 3 months of taking Fosamax.I have had no other symptoms. Thanks for a response.

My doctor prescribed Fosomax for me, so I've been taking it for about one year now. I don't seem to have any side-effects, but I'm not comfortable taking it. I've read articles about Fosomax and it's negative effects on some people, and asked my doctor about it, but she said I should continue to take it. She told me that the benefits outweigh the possible bad side-effects.

i have been on forteo injections for osteoporsis for the last 5 months. it is the only drug that actually rebuilds bone. my new insurance now will not cover forteo. i am not going to take fosamax becouse of all the bad reveiws i've read. i guess the insuranc company will have to pay for a hip replacement which will be considerablally more expesive than the forteo would have been

@pwags6147,
My mother stopped taking Fosamax because of the terrible side effects, including vision loss and back pain. She has been doing very well with the forteo, but is also battling her insurance company. They said they will only pay for the Fosamax - probably because they get big discount incentives from the manufacturer.

I'm a 73 year old Asian man.

My doctor changed my drug from Fosomax to Alendronate about six months ago. While taking Fosomax (before the change), I also asked my doctor about the side-effects, but she consulted with another physician who is a osteoporosis specialist, and still recommended I continue taking it.

I trust my physician, and will follow her prescription. I also take calcium with vitamin D. I get plenty of exercise - especially when I travel, because I love to walk. When at home, I work around the house on a regular schedule.
