To what extent, in which way, IYO has the invasion of Iraq been a catalyst for the strengthening and spread of Islamic terrorism? Would it be safe to call it Bush's gift to Bin Laden?

I don't know that it necessarily is a gift to bin Laden, per se. Undoubtedly, al Qaeda recruiting has picked up. I rather suspect, though, that it has simply had a general radicalizing effect in the Muslim world--the latest and most blatant example of what the rabble-rousers will refer to as the continuing crusade of the West against Islam.

The real beneficiaries will be the Imams, both the Persian Imams and the Iraqi Shi'ite Imams. They will likely come to an accomodation with the Kurds which leaves them free to suppress, with whatever brutality they prefer, the Sunni minority. The numbers are inescapable.

Our problem will be dealing with the ludicrous intent of the Shrub and his Forty Theives to implement the PNAC agenda, which calls for permanent bases in southwest Asia. That means Iraq. If you think the current insurrection is bad, wait until the Shi'ites tell us to leave. If we don't, it will be hell on earth.

Has not the invasion of Iraq brought a new dimension to and strenghtened the Islamic war of terror. And in effect strengthened Bin Laden and his ability to continue and to expand?

I would say that invading Iraq helped to take some of the "islamic" out of islamic terrorism. I think we are starting to see people allying themselves with the terrorists who are not necessarily religious and who have goals other than those of bin Laden, such as to get the US out of Iraq or to bring down what they see as an oppressive and aggressive nation.

I'm thinking of a quote from the guy they caught in Italy for the London bombings. I'm off to go find it.

It has to have a radicalizing effect.

Though they might not like the US, and even somewhat cheered bin Laden's WTC move, even the Arabs realize that you cannot attack a great power on it's own soil and not have the entire might of that power brought down on you. So despite protests, they can accept Afghanistan.

But Iraq? It had no connection to 911 at all. To a young student over there, it must seem as if the US plans to topple one Mideast country after another. It has to be a radicalizing issue.

I agree. The perceived "oppression" has radicalized the movement.

Oh yeah........radicalization must be occuring. Com'on.....get serious.....the real radicalization is being fomented by the fanatical Imams who are allowed to preach their hatred. When every fanaical Imam is deported back to whence he came......the fire in the brains of ordinary Muslims will subside.

Not likely. More likely, new ones will rise in their place with new injustices -- religious persecution among them -- to rally their followers.

Iraq, or to be more specific, the Shahrzur, is the birthplace of Shi'ism. It is ludicrous to speak of deporting Imam's--they're already in their homeland. Ignorance is a far bigger enemy in this war than the fanatics.

This is the title to the thread.......my reference was to the spread of Islamic terrorism to places like the UK, where the Imams have found heaven on earth with the recent freedom to preach hate with the likes George Galloway. Since the London bombings, that freedom is being jerked away as it should be.

Let me be more specific.....all Fanatical Imams in Western countries should be deported to whence they came.......

All your academic ....perceived oppression.....has been happening to Muslims By Muslims ever since Mohammed Officially sanctioned violence in the name of Allah in the 7th century

What amuses me is when Blair says, after the bombings in London, that they had nothing to do with the war in Iraq.

Oh, yes? And he knows this how?

No of course not. They bombed London because they hate how the English have such perfect teeth.
