Louis Armstrong, major man
He could play like nobody can
Gabriel's horn don't sound as good
Playing jazz as Louis' could
And that singing- who'll forget?
Add a 'bone and clarinet
Mighty sidemen, each of whom
Knew enough to fill the room
Then you has- what have you got?
JazzJazzJazz, sweet 'n hot.

Look here, Boo,
A Louie fan.
McTag's becomin' my main man.
Now if we could just summon Cliff,
We'd have a jam and do a riff.

Then add a canary, maybe two,
We'd sound just like the jazz boys do.
Maybe Shearing will appear
And add those block chords.
What an ear!

That satchel mouth sure could blow
Thats something we all know
But did you know that he could sing
Maybe just as good as Bing
" I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you"
" Every step of the way will find us
With the cares of the world far behind us "
" So, take her wrap, fellas
Find her an empty lap, fellas
Dolly'll never go away again "
Old dippermouth could use that gate
He crooned and sung until late
He kept us in thrall
And at the end of it all
He had a smile as wide as a mile

ah, Satchmo. He'd mop that brow with a large handkerchief..and in his endearing gravely voice..say "Yeah"

I'm trying to remember his vocalist...hmmmmm. Do believe that Trummy Young played trombone in his group.

Hey, hiama. You Brits do know your jazz.

Letty,
...What I'm wondering is, why they would name an Armstrong bio, "St. Louis Blues". W.C. Handy wrote that tune, and Satcmo hails from New Orleans,Louisiana.
...As I was typing I thought , it might be a testament to him, to call him a saint, but when you think Satcmo, you don't think blues. hmmm... Confused

Hey OAK,
...I remember that as one of the rare films that premiered in my home town.................St. Louis of course. It was also very close to the demise, of the legendary Cole.

John, you will not get out of NYC without seeing me! If we happen to be in Florida when you cross the pond, you and your wife have an open invitation to stay with us in Ponte Vedra Beach. We might even get Letty to make an appearance at our place in FL.

Gosh, another meet brewing.
The McTags will be in Germany this year, and will meet Walter, another A2K-er.
Nat "King" Cole was a great singer, but he was a better piano man, in my opinion, never knowingly humble Wink

McTag, you are absolutely right. Nat was a far better piano player. His trio was jazz at its coolest. Cool One tune that I remember that really swung was "Straighten up and Fly Right." GREAT!

He and John Wayne became ill around the same time. They are a couple of icons that are sorely missed in the entertainment world.

Letty,
...I thought Nat got sick and passed, right after, "St. Louis Blues", which was in the middle sixties. The Duke, lasted into the seventies, or eighties, right?
