This post is actually not about me, It is for a family member...

She is 24 years old.... has one son who is 8 months old and she just found out she is pregant again....
Her boyfriend and her live in a small apartment that is falling apart due to the landlord that does nothing...

She called the Board of Health on the Landlord and they told her to hold her rent until he fixed a list of items..... I.E. broken windows, caulking on tub, cockroaches and other various insects.... mold growing in the bathroom....

He still has not fixed half of these things but now he is demanding his rent back... the board of health is coming by tomorrow for an inspection and if he passes then they have to pay him.... ONE PROBLEM.... they used the rent money to pay off bills so the hot water and electric and phone wouldn't get shut off.... so now they are short $1500..... which they need by 2morrow morning just incase

If they don't have this money, they will get evicted and they will have nowhere to go....

She just recently found out she was pregnant again.... there only option would be to go to Cape Verde where the boyfriends mother lives... but my cousin will be miserable there...

Any advice as to what she should do Question Sad

Are there any places to go when you have no savings?? We live in Massachusetts and I just don't want to see her unhappy back in Cape Verde.... she doesn't belong there, she doesn't know anyone there

One of the problems I think I see with this is that the trouble with the landlord's caretaking is sort of a 'red herring' in that they wouldn't have had the money to pay the rent anyway, would they have? Or am I misunderstanding?

No, they had the rent money all ready but when the board of health said he had to do so much they took the money to pay off the bills they would have had to ignore once again.... basically they live paycheck to paycheck only able to pay the rent and one bill each month

Has she looked into subsidized or section 8 housing?
