Stupidity doesn't explain what the Germans did. Yes, they were stupid, but they were also something that was ten times worse than mere stupidity. They allowed themselves to be led and hypnotized by insane, evil leaders. It was the fault of the German people, and it can't be explained away by mere stupidity.

There is a strong movement now led by right wing extremists that threatens the very democracy that has made America stand out from the rest of the world. These extremists are in the spotlights now, and many of them may face legal justice in the near future. That so many people still support this evil bodes poorly for the future of the country.

I absolutely agree. Stupidity or even ignorance are not feasible rationalizations for what the Nazis did, and they don’t work to explain what the MAGATS do, either.

There has to be a willful, conscious assent to evil.
If not to support it outright, then to enable it by the averting of eyes.
