There are some people who claim that this assassination attempt on Trump was a false flag operation. That is so unlikely that it's almost absurd. A false flag operation in the Trump assassination attempt would be too obvious, especially since the attack came so close to Republican convention. It's just too obvious even for the desperate fanatics of Maga.

There was a false flag operation in the opening pilot episode of the detective series, Monk. A mayoral candidate, Warren St. Claire hires a sniper to fire on him while doing an open-air rally. The shots miss the candidate but kill his bodyguard who was intentionally sacrificed for the cause.

There have been two other pieces of literature that closely parallel the machinations of Trump and Maga, one of them fairly recent, The Dead Zone by Stephen King. A presidential candidate Greg Stillson, who is very similar to Trump in political stance, vies for the title. The main difference is that this Stillson is a psychopath, whereas Trump is a narcissist. The Stephen King psychopathic candidate, Greg Stillson, is very much aware of his lies, machinations, and manipulations. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Trump, on the other hand, is a narcissist who is delusional. Narcissists automatically filter out reality unconsciously and reformulate it to suit their false self. Trump really believes what he says.

The narcissist makes for the perfect political candidate because he believes what he says and, therefore, appears perfectly natural, authentic, and honest. It also helps if he's sociopathic and lacks a conscience to express remorse for anything he has said or done in the past.

The third parallel in literature was a novel written by Sinclair Lewis in 1935, It can't Happen Here. Fascist Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip rises to power to become America's first dictator. This novel took place in the 30s not coincidentally at the same time as Hitler's rise to power and the rise of the popular American Nazi party, the German American Bund. As popular as the Bund was, it was insignificant compared to the enormously effective fascist Maga party led by Trump. The rise of the Bund was cut short by the war with Germany, therefore it was disgraced. However, after the war Bund members claimed that they weren't so much pro-Hitler as they were anti-communist, so they were forgiven because anti-communism became the new cause and identity of America.
