son smokes pot

Dont beat yourself up about it.99% of my friends did drugs when they were teenagers and they have turned out ok.
Im assuming he is a teenager,its hopefully just a faze.
I think if you ban him from smoking it he will rebel and do it even more.
I reckon you should just inform him of any harm it can do then let him make up his own mind.

As a 17 year old, I see it often in my school. I also have alot of experience with dealing with drug users as I am involved with police department and my local emergency medical services (ambulance response). I see where it leads people and that is pretty much my reason for not using.

My cousin is in the same situation actually. He smokes pot and his parents found out. He was sent to a program for a few days, not too sure how that worked out for him...i dont think it worked at all actually.

Many people dont listen to me because im 17, and of course as a teenager, we know nothing. We know more then people think...but heres what I think you should do:

1: Figure out where hes getting it from and how. If hes buying it, simply cut off his cash flow. If hes getting it free from friends, make him stop seeing those friends.

2: If you can, get him involved with something that will preoccupy all of his time. (Fire department/EMS worked for me, they drug test us too, so theres no tolerance for it)

3: Show him where drug use will lead him (prison, hospital, death). This may be a tough one to do but if you have a connection to the PD, or even if you get him involved with EMS, he will see it eventually.

As you can tell...i really advocate involvement with emergency services. I think it will really make anyone a well rounded person. Ive seen enough to never make me speed, not wear a seatbelt, drink and drive, use drugs, get involved with certain types of people, or drink underage. Trust me, if you have a youth program around you like this, get him involved (looks good for college too).

I think your best option is number 1 and 2 though, cut off his means of getting drugs and preoccupy all of his idle time. Good luck with everything
