No, the UN was not created for the resolution of world wide conflict.
It was created to redistribute wealth from America to the rest of the world.

Despite what you may have heard.

And on that, it has been successful, though not as successful as was originally hoped.

Not yet, anyway.

From a public relations point of view, it was a stroke of brilliance by the defense department to allow the media to be imbedded with the troops.

When you live, eat, sleep, and observe the soldiers fighting and sometimes dying, the likelihood of you writing an "ugly American soldier" piece is drastically reduced.

And you got that from where?

The UN is not in the business of redistributing wealth. Alas.

What the UN does do is take on certain tasks on an international level. Like providing food and shelter to refugees (UNHCR). The member countries pay a contribution to the costs involved. The US is the one conspicuously greatest debtor to the UN, in that it has consistently refused to pay the share it has committed itself to. This has greatly hampered the UN work to prevent mass disease (WHO), famine (WFP) as well as post-war peacekeeping and reconstruction. In the meantime, the US has no grudges about leaving the post-war humanitarian work to the UN whenever they've finished off another war.

I got that from observing the effects of the UN for the past 35 years, that's where I got that.

It would be interesting to get stats from the UN on who contributes how much and where it goes.
