It is more that facts agree with what I say.

maxdancona wrote:
Facts can be disproven. If something is a fact, then you can tell me what specific evidence would disprove it.

That is incorrect. Facts, being true, cannot be disproved.

Progressives have been trying to disprove reality for a long time now. They have never succeeded in doing so.

That is incorrect. Reality cannot be disproved. Reality is not an opinion.

maxdancona wrote:

True, but not terribly relevant in a discussion of factual matters.

maxdancona wrote:

maxdancona wrote:

I have told you how to prove that something is a fact... if you want me to accept something you believe as a fact, then tell me how to test it.

The normal way to establish that something someone says is true is to ask for a cite when you find a claim to be questionable.

Most progressives are afraid to ask for cites because they know that such a request will only lead to evidence being presented that I am correct.

@oralloy,
It is a silly game you are playing Oralloy. Cites are meaningless if they are unable to ever disprove your alleged facts. You just start with your opinion and then ignore any "cites" that contradict it.

I have given you all kinds of examples. You just ignore the examples.

If you you actually present a fact that is actually testable I will accept it. I have yet to see you do this.

All you are saying is "my facts are facts because they are facts". There is no way to sa whether your silly claims are true or not... because there is no test where if we find such a thing you will accept that your claim is false. You seem to think you are God (not that it matters, I demand the same ability to test the claims of God).

You are a silly person.

@oralloy,
This is the silliest thing Oralloy has done (out of lots of silly thing).

Oralloy claims that I want "Black people to be allowed to kill police officers". I told him that that is untrue, yet he continues to assert that he knows what I want better than I do.

There is no way for me to disprove what Oralloy says I think (even though I think I should know better). Yet Oralloy persists in claiming it is a fact... without any way to change his mind.

@maxdancona,
Cut your losses with Oralloy.

That is what I did when I realized their opinion is set in stone.

@Rebelofnj,
Oralloy is a foil. I am trying to flush out my explanation of how to distinguish between fact and opinion.

Oralloy is not the only person with this problem.

@maxdancona,
You cannot provide any examples of me ever failing to tell the difference between fact and opinion.

The person with the problem is you. The problem is your refusal to accept reality.

As far as telling the difference: A fact is something that is true. An opinion is how someone feels about something.

My opinion is not necessarily set in stone. But I have good reasons for my opinions, so it will probably require a sound argument in order to convince me to change my mind about something.

I can see why it is frustrating for you to be judged by your actions and not by your words, but it's not silly for me to do this.

You are not judging me by my actions.

You are judging me by your ability to read my mind.

Wrong again. I am judging you by your actions.

You are trying to avoid this fact by falsely claiming that I am claiming to read your mind.

Damn, it happened again.... I can't handle the brilliance of the logic your argument that is both non-circular and definitely not at all silly. The depth of your intelligence is truly frightening.

I think I will run away.

Pointing out reality to progressives may well be futile, but it is neither silly nor a game.

maxdancona wrote:

That is incorrect. Cites are quite useful for proving facts.

maxdancona wrote:

I start with facts and reality. Cites tend not to contradict facts and reality.

You cannot provide any examples of me ever ignoring a cite.

You have not given any examples.

You cannot point out any previous post where you have given any such examples.

You've seen me do it all the time. You run from a thread as soon as you see me do it.

Except you know that the result of such a request will be me backing up my claims, and you don't want to face that, so you just run away whenever you see me post facts.

No. I'm merely secure in the knowledge that I am correct.

I would argue that the silly person here is the one who is afraid to confront other people's claims.

Maybe this is a vocabulary problem.

What is the term for a statement that can be tested (either proven or disproven) rather than just asserted?

@oralloy,
If I may, you did claim that The United Nations tried to ban all guns worldwide until they were stopped by John Bolton.

However, I couldn't find anything that matched that.

Also, you did say The Supreme Court wouldn't defend gun rights, even though the Court is leaning towards conservative, even before Ginsburg's death. And you have said only the NRA can enforce gun laws, despite the fact they have zero legal authority to do so.

@Rebelofnj,
You are missing the point Rebel.

A fact is something that is proveable or disprovable.

If there is no possible evidence that could disprove a statement, then it is not a fact (no matter how "true" it is).

(and for the logically challenged among us... a "cite" is not proof).

@maxdancona,
Facts, being true, are rather difficult to disprove. Progressives have been trying to disprove reality for quite some time now, and have yet to succeed.

The reality that facts are true and cannot be disproved does not mean that they are not facts.

Cites (reputable ones at least) do in fact prove facts, at least to those who are willing to accept reality.

"Claims" and "assertions" can be tested, and proved or disproved.
