I am using MS Word and MS Windows 10.

While I was inputting a file I appear to have clicked something inadvertently. Now the file reflects a pilcrow (ΒΆ) symbol.

Between lines there ia square box symbol in the left-most position.

How do I stop them?

@gollum,
I don't use MS Word... but I know exactly what that is.

You turned on non-printable characters, so you are seeing the usually invisible characters that mark new paragraphs. To a software engineer, turning on this option is sometimes helpful (these invisible formatting characters can sometimes cause problems with our scripts).

You are looking for an option that says "show non-printable characters" or "show invisible characters". I would look in the preferences menu, or in the view menu.

Edit: I just googled it for you... https://www.teachucomp.com/show-non-printing-characters-in-word-instructions/
