The Point?

Reply Fri 24 Jun, 2005 07:20 am
Lately I have been wondering a question, and after reading Nimh's post here I decided I would ask:

What is the point of posting on the A2K politics forum?

I know that I as well as many of you who read this post every day, or at least several times a week if not many times a day.

Why is it so compelling? We all know it is frustrating. It isn't like there is a score kept or a winner or loser. So why do we invest so much time and effort into creating posts and sharing news?

For me, I believe that the discussion itself not only increases my knowledge of the world of politics overall but helps to sharpen my arguments and rhetoric greatly.

But why do YOU post?

Cheers

Lol, thanks!

I mean, I used to be a Republican 4 years ago; so it isn't as if I can't change...

Glad you went back to the old avatar

And I thought I couldn't be surprised here anymore.

This happens with every board I have ever went to. There are usually two camps and people just keep going back and forth. Yet, like you said they keep doing it.

I agree with you, one of the reasons I do it is to keep up and another is that I am just frustrated with world events. Another is that I like most of the posters even some on the other side. Lastly and foremost I am addicted to the internet and this is as good a place as any.

I post because I want to know two things:

One, am I able to articulate my political beliefs in a clear, consise and fair-minded way?

and

two, am I nuts?

I already know that the rest of you are nuts.

There are more than 40,000 members at this site. Far fewer than that post. But a great many may read. For all of the frustration, the effort is justified by not letting the propaganda of a rogue administration go unchallenged.

.... and what of those that might visit and read one of Set's or Cyclops' posts? Were it not for the few right-thinking among us here, those ruminations would also go unchallenged, to be read by impressionable folks who might actually believe them.

And why not? So they can be swayed instead by your reprinting of lies and equivocations?

That knife cuts both ways buddy

..........and there are many, I suspect, who would believe those flawed, ill conceived ruminations if not refuted by logical pragmatic argument by said right- thinking participants

I don't post often but I'm glad the rest of you do. It's a good way to get a look at many sides of the issues. I usually don't agree with those of you who are slouching to the right on this forum, but am thankfull for the posts, especailly by Tico and McG, which either give me another perspective or help me to better clarify my veiws of many issues.
