Before I get blown out for hating mexican food, I love it. I forget the name of the best place, which was in Vallarta in the late sixties. Mostly I like real tortillas, a lost art re ground fresh and not from bags of masa. I love good tamales, etc. But I have had some really bad mexican food in the north north of california.

Have had some terrible italian food here too. How terrible, you ask, and I try to remember quite how terrible it was that made me think it was the very worst I had had ever. Ok, it was the proportions.
Vat of mediocre oil for a few strands of pasta, overcooked at that? No clue, no clue, and further, no clue.

The trouble with food is, when you have had ...although rare...some really good food, not so high in cost as in quality and know how....then....
you see drecko even more vividly.
