Senator Ward Crutchfield & Others Arrested in "Tennessee Waltz"
Richard Simms

May 26,2005
Four members of the Tennessee Legislature were arrested this morning in Nashville on conspiracy and extortion charges... including Hamilton County Senator Ward Crutchield (D), Rep. Chris Newton (R) from Polk County, and Charles Love, Hamilton County School Board member.
The arrests came after the FBI set up a dummy company that allegedly paid the legislators and others in an effort to influence legislation. The operation was called "Tennessee Waltz."
Crutchfield's law partner, Bill Pope, said in a telephone interview from Crutchfield's office in Nashville that the Senator was arrested as he headed to the state Capitol this morning.
One government official said in a news conference today, "government is not for sale."

Huh.

Hope they had a lot of those stings going on -- I don't think for a moment that it's confined to Tennessee.

I was dancin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancin'
My friend stole my sweetheart from me

How very appropriate . . .

A side note to this is... Charles Love is declaring bankruptcy for debts amounting to $275,000....$49,000 of which is back taxes.

Got bad news for Charles Love. Bankruptcy doesn't protect from back taxes or child support.
