Yup, I'll even buy you a tuxedo. But bring some candy. I'm addicted to candy. And bring my pup fluffy a bone, the sweet one.
You shall the the room down the hall, to the right second door. It has a private balcony.

Shazzer,
so it doesn't look as if we are any further in the search for the best place to live in Europe! I'm an opera singer who will be retiring in two years but still very fit and vocally healthy so I intend to go on performing where and when I can. I'm looking for somewhere where we can live on my pension! We love living in southern Germany but it is expensive since the introduction of the Euro and also I'd like to live somewhere other than a German speaking country! I'm tired of German regulations! I think Italy offers the best attraction followed by Greece. I'm not crazy about all the expat communities in Spain!

have you ever thought of touring central- and south-america ? while i have never been to south-america, i understand that those countries have a very active artistic/music community. just recently listened on the CBC(canadian broadcasting corporation) saturday afternoon opera performance to a transmission from colombia. that started to raise my interest and i found out that , indeed, there is a great deal of classical music performed in central- and south-america.
personally, we are just in the process to book a trip to rio for next spring.
let us know, youngbrain, were you will be performing.

So Hamburger.......when are you coming to my castle?
I can buy a castle in South America. I just need to know where. Maybe Argentina??
I heard they have unusual castles in Columbia..... Don't think I just want to go there to get high because i"m a good-church-going man. Rolling Eyes

So what is it? what would it be? i want the castle to convey a feeling of darkness and dread and spookiness.

PS.....Bring me some candy. The Willy Wonka type.

duke : i seem to recall that there are some castles along the hudson river. one of those would suit me just fine.
i don't need "darkness, dread and spookiness", posh living is of more interest to me now (had enough of the other stuff !). hbg

btw is this what you are referring to when speak of spookiness ?

mmmm.....I don't know.....I guess I'd have to see the inside. I'm very picky.

Do you know the exact location of these castles along the Hudson River??
I mostly wanted a castle in England but at this point anything would satisfy my needs.
Where do you suggest I buy the castle?? I'm open for suggestions.

I just wanted to stop in and say a big 'thank you' to everyone that's joined in this discussion so far. Still not sure where I'll end up, but I've got some great ideas for places to start. Barcelona is looking pretty good at the moment. I have a feeling I'll be spending a few months there at the very least.
