I am listening to a block of Primus right now on the local rock station, and I was just thinking, "HOLY ****, WHO IS BETTER THAN LES CLAYPOOL?! THIS GUY IS F*CKING INCREDIBLE!!! OH MY GOD, I'M LOVING THIS ****!!!"
Les Claypool is the best rock bass player of all time. Anyone disagree?
did you eat yet where the hell do you work? Les is awesome
F**k off Kicky...
Jean-Jacques Burnel from The Stranglers is the best evah!

I work at a horrible finance company in the graphics department. I have my headphones on today. I'm pretending I'm sitting in a place that doesn't so closely resemble hell.
Smorgs, compared to Les, all other bass players lick ass! I can't believe you don't see that! What, do you need me to come over there and spank that ass for you?
I have always enjoyed the work of Jack Bruce and John Entwhistle . . .
I had a feeling John Entwhistle would come into this discussion at some point. I agree, he is also amazing. Sometimes his fingers look like a spider jumping around on the fretboard...yeah, he's also a badass.
But i was just layin' back on ya . . . waitin' to set this one up . . . Lola will be here to dance and shout if she sees this one . . .
THE GREATEST BASS PLAYER OF ALL TIME:
WILLIAM "BOOTSY" COLLINS
Re: Best bass player in all of rock, all-time
I saw the title of this thread and thought to my self... why Les Claypool of course.
So imagine my suprise when I opened it up and found that somebody actually agrees with me.
I mean come on... a 6 string frettless base??? ROCK ON LES!!!
Les Claypool is top 5 for sure.
As a by-product mainly of 60's and 70's "classic" rock, I'm not familiar with Les Claypool but judging by the comments here, it sounds as if he would be worth checking out. I would cast my vote for Paul McCartney (particular his playing on "Sgt. Pepper"). Secondary votes would go to John Entwistle, John Paul Jones, Brian Wilson, Jack Bruce and Bill Wyman.
entwistle.
nobody else is even close!
RIP, ox...

Definitely a good songwriter. Never really noticed his bass playing though...
found this on youtube:
John Entwistle isolated bass, from a live performance of "won't get fooled again", 1977...
Bootsy...heh, yeah.
John McVie...Fleetwood Mac
Verdine White....one of the hardest working bass players I've ever seen....you might know him and his brother Maurice as Earth, Wind, and Fire.
that was awesome!!
after a few failed attempts, i synched up the "kids are alright" CD with the video, and listened to the song in a proper fashion...
does this make me a geek?
I repeat... CHRIS SQUIRE...
