Dude had been placed by his ideology in the position of validating himself--and therefore the doctrine which he personified in that place--in the eyes of those whom he wished to influence. As i personally was obviously a "lost cause" in his eyes, it was important for him to regain the initiative and to discredit me. His doctrinaire training would also have told him that i was just a "loudmouth," and that i could have been backed down by the threat. I would only observe that the word according to Mr. Hubbard must not include realistic assessments of the probable reaction of large, good-natured and quick-to-anger-when-drinking Irishmen. I truly am a physical coward--i go out of my way to avoid the dentist, and i absolutely hate getting an injection. When confronted, however, i "see red"--not something it is wise to induce in someone over six feet tall and weighing 250 pounds, and in good physical condition (then--sadly, not now).

As much as I detest Scientology and Hubbard, one thing I will give him is he seem pretty good at telling folks a beautiful lie. Getting people to believe, and to follow him. And he was able to do this with some fairly intelligent folks. But of course these folks must have all had a huge blind spot. They could not see the huge dark side of it all.

But in this area, as you note, he seems to have failed miserably in predicting human nature. I'm glad it worked out like it did. Personally, I think the broken bottle/confrontation technique is a disaster, if we are just speaking for a moment as potential cult leaders.

I mean: If I am in a bar, and I am listening to this guy, and I am liking what he is saying, I'm ready to sign up, right? And a confrontation happens, and this idiot gets ready to fight that fast? Any respect I have for his ideas or group or whatever just disappeared. If I had believed the guy, after witnessing this incident--I would distance myself from him and his people as soon as possible.

Scientology specifically targets those on the fringe, those who feel "left out," those who are perrenial followers, and never leaders. Therefore, the technique requires simply appearing to be the most plausible leader around. The much more common technique is to linger about bus stops, in coffee shops, diners . . . i rather suspect that the particular "Scientologist" of whom we speak learned a valuable minatory lesson about attempting the technique in a bar.

When I was about 20, one of their missionaries approached me at a bus stop with a "Free Personality Test." I used to get that every few months, for a few years there. It always was creepy. The standard line was something like: "Take our test, find your personality flaws, and we will show you how to change your personality to achieve the Perfect Personality." Something like that--thats what I remember anyway.

Creepy.

Funny, they never approach me anymore...

You probably now appear to them to exude a self-confidence which makes you a less likely target for the method. This is something which has always spoken volumes to me about the "celebrities" who become followers of that cult.

you are right about one thing my brothers and sisters. The Bible was written so that the ordinary shepard could ascend without the knowledge of advanced science. In that way, the path was made to follow, made available to all. I tell you the truth, both science and the word of Yeshua are keys, These things are rising to the surface as all things of truth shall before the end.

I have clicked on a link you provided on two occassions. Neither link provided any proof of the allegations you are making, but each link lead to a site which wants to separate people from their cash. That is spamming.
