What's next for this whacky bunch ? A bill outlawing the crushing of Budweiser cans on one's forehead ? An FCC guideline on the appropriate handling of the remote ??

Sexy Texas cheerleader ban clears first hurdle

Legislators in the American state of Texas yesterday voted to crack down on 'sexually suggestive' dance performances in schools.

Famed for its Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, Texas has introduced a law which is designed to ban dance routines by school cheerleaders and drill teams at sports events that one politician said was like something out of a strip club.

Exposed midriffs and ever shorter shorts and skirts have particularly outraged some legislators.

Joe Deshotel, a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives said the problem is "in the eye of the beholder".

"Some of them are just downright vulgar, something you would see at an adult club or something," he said.

One of the co-authors of the bill, Republican Corbin Van Arsdale, said many parents want restrictions because they go to Friday night games to see young men clashing on the football field, not girls shaking their behinds on the sidelines.

"You've got children seeing things that their parents would rather them not see," Mr Van Arsdale said.

The people of Texas elected these people to office and will live with what legislation they pass.

I wonder how one defines sexually suggestive???

Maybe legislation should be passed prohibiting interpretation of sexuality these dirty old codgers feel in their loins towards teenage girls dancing.

I mean, weren't many of the dances in the 60's considered suggestive too?
Or did they legislate against that style of dance, hence it's extinction.

Cyclo - You live in Texas. Have you contacted your elected official and suggested they spend your tax dollars on something else??

How will they inforce this? Drag the cheerleading squad off the field at halftime???

I love the fact that a Democratic legislator spoke in favor of this. It shows that Democrats, too, can show they care about important values.

Makes me proud...

I have no clue.

I shot of an email to a few people, but does that matter these days? Luckily my district is Lloyd Doggett's (they tried to redistrict him out of existence and failed, badly) so I at least have some quality representation...
