professional lookers often go to the Division of Motor Vehicles in whatever state you may think a person lives. Sometimes name plus age will help pinpoint the whereabouts of said person. But will definately narrow down the search.

Talk to your mother. If she's no help, talk to your grandparents. You have a right to basic information, particularly about the possibility of genetic diseases.
