I know it isn't the deepest topic on the boards - but I could use some lightening up.
I was thinking about the phrase "cool" the other day when I saw a T-shirt that listed the synonyms for cool.
So - in your generation - when you were growing up - what were the top THREE ways of expressing cool?
I, was an old school rap fan (mid to late 80's) so my three were:
1) Def
2) Dope
3) Fresh.
Go ahead - American Cool, Non-American Cool - lay it on me - what was "Cool" when you were growing up?
TTF
In high school we'd take dollar bills(kind of hard to describe) and use scotch tape to almost make a "tail" on the end....same width as the dollar and about the same length.
Stick it in a Coke machine, then yank it out. You'd get the Coke and the change.
Now if a kid got caught doing that it would be all over CNN.
Being as I'm still growing up, can I give some current versions of 'cool'?
-Crunk
-Bomb
-Tight
I despise them all. Whatever happened to 'wonderful,' 'felicitous,' or 'magnificent'? The lowest I steep is 'peachy,' 'dandy,' 'nifty' etc. But some things...some things I just will never understand.

Those words are da bomb..
My most common word is "sweet".
I remember the widespread use of radical and bitchin from the mid 80's.
I am single handedly trying to bring back groovy to the mainstream.
Cool was cool in my day. Or boss.
Smog - did you ACTUALLY say this? I thought this was a BillandTedism.
TF
Always had cool in my lifetime. Then there was boss, tough, fab -
I used to wear Z Cavaricci's like they were going out of...style.
Also, mad dope fresh with my Skidz.
23 skidoo, right arm and "keep the baby, faith" I was way rad.
Mostly just "cool" ... or just "goed" ("die is goed, man"). What else ... "tof" suddenly came back sometime early/mid nineties for a bit ... "heftig", "strak" ("die is wel strak", "ik stond helemaal strak"), "hip" (as adjective, not exclamation), "lekker" ... I dunno.
with three other guys, it was "hond in de goot" after visit to the nether lands. a bit like "in the gut," only funnier and on personhole covers.
Here's something that's hinted at but not clearly stated. It just so happens that latetly Ive been musing on the fact that cool has got to be the longest lasting slang word in history. We used it in the 50's and it's still here.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention; My normal temputure is 97.2 degrees. so I guess that makes me literally
Booman - sick minds think alike. When I was framing this question I thought about the word everyone could see as universal. Cool is the one.

I'm hip. That used to have a double meaning, depending on context. It could mean "I know" or, as a brag, simply blowing your own horn.
