@Region Philbis,
Better put in on the 20th unless you want to find out you slept through it.

Jupiter is at opposition sometime in June. And Saturn is at opposition sometime in July.

Summer oppositions are not ideal of course. Due to the tilt of the earth an opposed planet will be low in the sky in the summer, and that leads to poor seeing conditions. But at least the temperature will be warm outside.

@ehBeth,
ASSUMING ITS CLEAR.
Ragman or FBM would be the best camereros to see about what to b hooting the thing at. I bought 250-500 Canon lens (used from a newspapare sell off) and Im thinking of setting up that one to take some arty fartsy shots and then a TD with a 52 -250 zoom at every 5 to 10 seconds with the other camera . back up using a sammy phone

@farmerman,
Pictures can't compare to watching live with your eyes.

Not without a camera setup that would set you back about five figures (credit or cash).

@tsarstepan,
I've seen lots of quality pictures of solar eclipses that I'm sure were taken with very expensive cameras. None of them even began to compare to seeing the 2017 eclipse with my own eyes.

So Im sure you took pictures of the one you saw. The experience of totality is what's unphotographible. Itd be a shame NOT to catch shot or a hundred or so

@farmerman,
I did not waste even one second of the eclipse trying to take a picture. And I'm glad that I didn't.

I will not be attempting to take pictures of the Texas eclipse either.

I did take some pictures of Devil's Tower and of the Badlands when I was headed back home after the eclipse however.

There is a curious restaurant differential between Texas and Wyoming. In Wyoming the restaurants are steakhouses (or at least they were where I stayed). I've been scouting online for the next eclipse and it looks like in Texas the restaurants are barbecue joints.

@oralloy,
they have these things called tripods and my anons have programmable shutters.
Like I said, the eerie feeling at totality is something that can only be experienced. Sharing what I see when totality is acquired is something I do for my own records and to share with family and friends. Being a photo nut is its own thing.
