De Niro has turned in many exciting performances. I really, really liked him in "Midnight Run". And he scared the boogers out of me in "Taxi Driver." Which is his best performance and what made it so special?

I was quite intrigued by his performance in "Angel Heart"

For some reason, I didn't even know it was him until they rolled the credits.

In "Awakening" was my favorite DeNiro performance, he played
the mentally challenged one so perfectly.

THe other movie I loved him in, was where he played a
blue color worker who was iliterate and Jane Fonda taught
him how to read and write. I forgot the title of the movie though.....

Oh my. When he was shot in Mean Streets, I blubbered like a baby. What a death scene.

He was quite frightening in "Taxi Driver" and "Cape Fear". I also liked the part he played in "Awakenings."

Oddly, I have managed to miss most of DeNiro's most famous films. The snub was not intentional; I just have a haphazard viewing pattern that causes me to miss lots of movies.

That's too bad, Edgar. He's one of our absolute best.

I hated Awakenings, but lots of people I know really liked it. He was exceptional in Taxi Driver, I thought.

I really liked him in Heat, and another heist-type movie with Edward Norton.

(Ridiculous, but I also thought he was great in the spoofs of his "stereotypical character"--Midnight Run and Meet The Parents. He'll take you down. He'll take you down to Chinatown....)

But, IMO, his masterpiece was Vito Corleone in the Godfather II. He just breathed that role. Lot of good work in that movie.

Meet the Parents was a complete turnoff for me.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, Edgar. It cracked me up. Ben Stiller is comic genius to me.

Two snaps up for Gaylord Focker.

Ican't believe I forgot Good Fellas, Casino, (Never saw Raging Bull--hate boxing), The DeerHunter---I thought DeNiro owned that movie.

He was an Adonis as the young newlywed Vito Corleone. Just beautiful.

Hands down, RAGING BULL! How could this thread have gone almost two full pages without mention of that movie!

I had a fight with a friend of mine about the scene in the jail cell where he's raging, and he starts punching the wall...I swear he was punching that cement wall as hard as he could for real.

In any case, that was an amazing acting performance. Nothing comes close, except maybe Taxi Driver..

The movie White Castle... They just had to have White Castle.

That movie as funny. Completely mindless, sophomoric insanity, but funny.
