Speaking of Texas (which is where I was born, in San Antonio in fact - where the battle for the Alamo occurred) - seems like a good place to post Dylan's

Blind Willie McTell

Seen the arrow on the doorpost - saying this land is condemned
All the way from New Orleans to Jerusalem
I traveled through East Texas where many martyrs fell
And I know no one can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell.

Well I heard the hoot owl singing as they were taking down the tents
The stars above the barren trees were his only audience
Them charcoal gypsy maidens can strut their feathers well
But nobody can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell.

See them big plantations burning -hear the cracking of the whips
Smell that sweet magnolia blooming - and see the ghosts of the slavery ships
I can hear them tribes a'moaning - I can hear the undertakers bell
Yeah, nobody can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell

There's a woman by the river with some fine young handsome man
He's dressed up like a squire - bootlegged whiskey in his hand
There's a chain gang on the highway - I can hear the rebels yell
And I know noone can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell

Well God is in heaven and we all want what's his
But power and greed and corruptible seed seem to be all there is
I'm gazing out the window of the St. James hotel
And I know no one can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell.

*The squire with the bootlegged whiskey made me think of you Mathos...

My Sweet Lady Aidan,

Squire??

Baron would be applicable. I thought you were already familiar with my status?

If I swore you were an angel,
Would you treat me like the devil tonight?

I'd enjoy kissing an angel good morning.

Cigarettes and whisky, and wild wild women,
They'll drive you crazy they'll drive you insane.

And just to keep authentically involved with the Zimmerman thread, (sounds like a good, if not a capital excuse to lay the following before you.)

Lay, lady, lay, lay across my big brass bed
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead
I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you in the night
Stay, lady, stay, stay while the night is still ahead.

And Aidan,

If I said you had a beautiful body,
Would you hold it against me?

I have not had the pleasure of being over anything at all with you Aidan.

The Blind Willie McTell song is brilliant..

I printed it out. Must try and locate the tune, maybe Warez or Napster..

Hey! If you happen to see
The most beautiful girl in the world.

I don't have the leisure time, you are familiar with Spendius, no doubt you are milking the system for all it may be worth! Sitting in a low life 'ale-house' putting the world to rights, at the expense of The Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Some have some, and some have all.

What are you on about-"At the expense of the Chancellor of the Exchequer" ?

River water with a brown dye and a touch of aclohlol at "2 quid a pint.We boozers are keeping him solvent.

I will admit though that we do,particularly at the fag end of the night, have a propensity to put the
world to rights. We see things more clearly then.

And it isn't low life. It's about 3 or 4 on a scale of o to 10.Slightly downscale say.

We only have your word for that Spendius, you could be sat in some dismal Barnsley hovel for all we know. The Chancellor is quite good to you sot's in any event, he has no desire to see anarchy on the streets.

I note well the benefits rise in accordance with any duty increase on ale or tobacco, and your more than likely into the tobacco fiddle. Tax free imports from Mohammed the taxi driver springs to mind.

You're gonna make me lonesome when you go
(one of my very favorite bob dylan songs)

I've seen love go by my door
It's never been this close before
Never been so easy or so slow.
Been shooting in the dark too long
When somethin's not right it's wrong
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Dragon clouds so high above
I've only known careless love,
It's always hit me from below.
This time around it's more correct
Right on target, so direct,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Purple clover, Queen Anne lace,
Crimson hair across your face,
You could make me cry if you don't know.
Can't remember what I was thinkin' of
You might be spoilin' me too much, love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Flowers on the hillside, bloomin' crazy,
Crickets talkin' back and forth in rhyme,
Blue river runnin' slow and lazy,
I could stay with you forever
And never realize the time.

Situations have ended sad,
Relationships have all been bad.
Mine've been like Verlaine's and Rimbaud.
But there's no way I can compare
All those scenes to this affair,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm doin',
Stayin' far behind without you.
Yer gonna make me wonder what I'm sayin',
Yer gonna make me give myself a good talkin' to.

I'll look for you in old Honolulu,
San Francisco, Ashtabula,
Yer gonna have to leave me now, I know.
But I'll see you in the sky above,
In the tall grass, in the ones I love,
Yer gonna make me lonesome when you go.

The Zimmerman chappie has a rare talent for
magnifying the most basic of basic and turning it into extremely interesting verse.
Perhaps his secret lies in the zealous attitude he takes in simply putting the basics onto paper as he feels fit.
The same creates a profound synchronisation in the followers to attempt to unravel that which was never shrouded in mystery at all.
We have a man made prophet here to the followers. Doesn't it make you want to yawn!

You have built on a good education Aidan coupled indeed with your love of English literature, I rather think you would find enjoyment in the many dialects this country of ours can afford to show you. They are very interesting 'tha knows'

Try 'Googling' the same and study the options available. You could even find a common trait to converse in style with the tyke!

Yorkshire born
Yorkshire bred
Strong in th'arm
Weak in th'ead.
