An 'oldie' from the Trish Yearwood catalog("Little Hercules"). Written by Craig Carrothers, alas, it will never see a #1 spot on any chart. It's too well written.

Another current fave: "Issues" by Trauma Team.

Country? Rolling Eyes Dude , this chick is firmly in the alt/folk mainstream. Nashville wouldn't know what to do with her.

On a similar vein. I used to think a lot of Yearwood...she chose great songs for album fillers...experimented a bit....took chances(Married Reybolds from the Mavericks)

Then I glance at a country rag in the checkout line and she's on the cover marrying Garth Brooks.Huh? What happened to her?

Well, I'm using the term loosely perhaps, but she sure sounds country to me. I like the traditional-sounding ones...

Laura Cantrell is a new fave of mine, too. And she actually grew up in Nashville!

OK ...so my fave song right now...don't laugh...is Joe Nichols' "What's A Guy Gotta Do To Get A Girl 'Round Here?"

...almost haiku-like lyrics:

Well ask anybody I'm a pretty good guy
And the looks decent wagon didn't pass me by
There ain't nothin in my past that I'm tryin hard to hide
And I don't understand why I gotta wonder why

Cruise all around the right parking lots
little time gets killed alotta bull gets shot
one who'll think I'm kinda cute and laugh at every joke I got
when I get to thinkin maybe she's athinkin maybe not

Had an old man tell me "Boy if you were smart
you'd hit the produce isle at the Super Walmart"
So I bumped into a pretty girl's shopping cart
but all I did was break her eggs and bruise her artichoke hearts

What's a guy gotta do to get a girl in this town
Don't wanna be alone when the sun goes down
Just a sweet little somethin to put my arms around
What's a guy gotta do to get a girl in this town

We opened for Joe a couple months ago and he was a swell guy...he even autographed my beach guitar

Always changing depending on what I'm listening to- but right now - this minute? It's Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen -

The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely-hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again.
Don't run back inside - darlin' you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we aint that young anymore
Show a little faith - there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty - but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me.

You can hide 'neath your covers - and study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers - throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain for a savior to rise from these streets
Well, now I'm no hero - that's understood
All the redemption I can offer girl, is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow - hey what else can we do now?
Except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's bustin' open these two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real - to trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back - Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh-0h come take my hand - riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh Thunder Road - Oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun - Hey I know it's late - we can make it if we run
Oh Thunder Road - sit tight-take hold - Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back if you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it aint free
And I know you're lonely - for words that I aint spoken
But tonight we'll be free - all the promises will be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road in the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the streets - your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn you hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone on the wind-So Mary climb in It's a town full of losers - we're pulling out of here to win.

Panzade - like the lyrics to that Joe Nichols song - funny. What kind of music does he play?
My favorite song today - feeling nostalgic - Sullivan Street by Adam Duritz (Counting Crows)- four minutes of pure, perfect longing...

Take the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
Cross the water and home through the town
Past the shadows that fall down wherever we meet
Pretty soon now, I won't come around.
I'm almost drowning in her sea - she's nearly fallen to her knees
Take the way home....

Take the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
Where all the bodies hang on the air
If she remembers, she hides it whenever we meet
Either way now, I don't really care - 'Cause I'm gone from there
I'm almost drowning in her sea - she's nearly crawling on her knees.
She's down on her knees....

Take the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
Where I'm just another rider burned to the ground - come tumblin' down
I'm almost drowning in her sea - she's nearly crawling on her knees
It's almost everything I need....I'm down on my knees.

It's a toss-up between "Dear Mr. Fantasy" by Traffic and "Dice" by Finlay Quaye featuring William Orbit. I think I have to give the edge to Mr. Quaye though.

Welcome Seas-it's startling to see your post right after Aidans lyrics. Hope you stick around.

Traffic was a fine "jamming " group and in fact we saw a Dave Mason show last month in a 300 seat theatre and he still has it.

Mr Quaye I don't recognize, but then again a lot of new music slips by me nowadays.
