A call-centre guy I knew through a past employer told me that quite a few people did this on the side to supplement their income so they could get their own apartments instead of sharing with multiple people.

That was painful. I feel bad for them, but I still doubt they would like it if I called them in the middle of their high-pressure day and asked them if they wanted to receive a free survey for just giving me their email address (spell it please) owner's name and phone number.
