In my opinion we will have to come to the realization of what the lack of transparency does to our society before we can move forward as a society!

What does that mean? Transparency with respect to what exactly?

@hawkeye10,
Very good point is that every one is blaming the other but our problems are a joint problem. We need to stop finding scape goats!

Did S&P really say this or is this an interpretation because there can be a big difference! There are many bias reporters out there!

Does "we are all in the mess together" sound familiar? I think that we all know that everyone is at fault, but playing the blame game is not going to help us put this to right. We need some capable adults. We have far too few capable adults. I blame the failure of the American education system first and foremost.

@georgeob1,
I know that it seems as an extremist view point but I think that is because we have been taught that you can not have complete transparency.
I believe that it is behind the closed doors of our government where most of our problems are born which keeps our citizen's voices from be heard!

Why should I be aloud to hide anything from you if I am working for you the tax payer?
I know that people can come up with all sorts of reasons but are they empirical in their logic?

Yes it would. The problem is that we have been of the opinion that the education system is broken and been trying to solve the problem for half a century, and have gotten no where. We keep trying endless solutions for a few minutes before we move on to the next one. What we have proven is that we dont understand how education works. It does not help that we dont agree on what the mission for education is. I think a good place to start would be to strip all of the moral and political indoctrination and most of the testing, which would free up several hours a day for educational instruction.

EDIT: a bit of this indoctrination is required during the first years of schooling so as to maintain a functional environment in the classroom.

@hawkeye10,
Sounds good and maybe we could allow this newly found free time to be used for what ever the student finds inspirational as long as the subject studied can be seen to add value to society in some way!
There are many subjects that add value to society and can be learned over the internet! We could pay teachers to teach these subjects on line!
It would not be that costly being you would only need one teacher per subject but you could allow for multiple teachers so that the student can have choice!
There are many professors on line now sharing what they know for free.

IDK, when I homeschooled my kids I was hostile to those in the Unschooling movement (basically homeschooling with no structure or rules where the students decide what they want to do)....I find myself less against it as I get older. Truth be told except for math and language my home school did not end up with a lot of structure, we did what felt right each day, and took lots of field trips, so maybe I was never as opposed as I thought I was.

Something to think about! I do not agree with the date but who knows?

Politicians lie. Bankers lie. Yes, they’re liars. But they’re not bad, it’s in their genes, inherited. Their brains are wired that way, warn scientists. Like addicts, they can’t help themselves. They want to sell stuff, get rich.

Is the market irrational ? NEVER ! ! Wall Street was still giving Bear Stearns , Enron , Tyco , Fannie Mae , Freddie Mac , etc. an A Rating up to the day they went bankrupt .

Gold has been a good investment but it will see its own demise shortly!

That depends upon how you look at it, I had a friend who was sinking all his free cash into gold @ 1981, he did not see that price again till 2008 even not taking into inflation. If he kept it he is finally ahead nicely though.

I see! Now if we can get the rest of employers to see this then we would be more productive citizens correct?

@hawkeye10,
Gold does seem like a very long term investment unless you have a decent understanding of future markets!
I wish I would have bought more gold when Spendius did but I would be selling soon!
